Beta-Reader Reviews
"...The book skids from dynamite to cliff in this inventive Perils of Pauline story... Initially drawn in by the slow brew between Alyse and her Mountie protector, and one-time beau, Glen; the evolving narrative of Alyse's 11th Century soul-twin, Ælfwyn, drove the page flips late into the night. I loved the moments when... I didn’t see that coming! The story is physical, dense, and rich in inventive detail and characters to root for - even the supporting ones. I found a cozy spot in the wintry British Columbia I know and love, while I learned much from the rich language and well-researched details that make Ælfwyn’s story so vivid...."

I have finished The Janus Paradox and... I LOVED IT!  What a clever, thought provoking and thoroughly enjoyable book. Can't wait for the next installment. (when is it due?)  The book resonated with me on several levels.  I have always believed in reincarnation but [this] book takes it to a new and different level.  And then on a more prosaic level, my maternal grandfather came from the Isle of Man and my maternal grandmother from Ireland so the basis of the book was very interesting. You, Ms. Early-Smith, must have done a massive amount of research. It is an inspired time-travel adventure - with an intriguing paranormal twist..."

I've read it twice now...  I've always been a fan of books that explore new mechanics for fantastic settings. This one was a pleasure all the way through. If you are a fan of time travel, romance, fantasy or just a well written book, get a copy for yourself.

time-travel / historic fiction adventure:

THE TIMEBRIDGE JOURNALS – invites us to explore the

essential nature of our deepest human connections - while playing with history.

The Journals present a passionate time-bending story of friendship and devotion between soul-kin, sometimes separated by centuries, even millennia, yet inextricably bonded to one another - as though rooted through nothing less than a quantum entanglement of souls.

Most of us have witnessed it - and some have been lucky enough to experience a sometimes-heartrending kinship of spirit where they know they have likely accompanied one another through hundreds of lifetimes. And yet, no matter how daunting the journey or how difficult the circumstances; they have always found each other.

The TimeBridge Journals record just such a lineage of kinship when a traumatic disruption in Time destroys all but the last sinews of their bond, and yet, that event also allows a few individual psyches sudden access to the Library of their Souls - their lineage of reincarnation. In order to reweave and heal their bonds, they are forced to navigate a labyrinth of past lives, soul-kin, and divergent timelines.

Janus Paradox recounts the harrowing instant when an extraordinary bond shared between soul-kin is threatened...

On Beltaine night, 1103, Jarl Hrogn Hröreksson and Ælfwyn Gærethsdotr have reunited at last after Ælfwyn’s years of exile in Viking dominated Ireland, but their lives are about to be thrown into chaos and their soul-paths changed forever – by an event in the 21st century.

US Olympic Biathlete Alyse Danilov, and Sgt. Glen Roderick, RCMP, encounter one gut-wrenching challenge after another when Alyse arrives in Canada for the Olympics and is suddenly kidnapped. While Sgt Roderick and his partner are calling in every law enforcement option to instigate an intensive search, Alyse is forced to struggle against a Biomedical research company's nightmarish protocols to push her consciousness into the future.

As Alyse wrenches herself free, she’s sent reeling back in time nearly a thousand years. There, her psyche briefly displaces Ælfwyn, while she's caught in the midst of a medieval battle.  Utterly bewildered by her surroundings, Alyse ends up distracting Ælfwyn’s champion, Jarl Hrogn Hröreksson. Before any of them can understand what is happening; Alyse is swept out of Ælfwyn's time and into yet another - one even more dangerous - her own.

Returning to the 21st century in a comatose state, Alyse continues experiencing events from Ælfwyn's life. As Alyse gradually wakes, she is shocked to discover a divergent timeline where Sgt. Glen Roderick is not her fiancé, but merely the RCMP detective investigating her disappearance, and he, along with everyone else Alyse has ever known, barely knows her,

With friendships erased, lives destroyed, and her deepest soul-bond of all stripped away, Alyse’s struggles against the Olympic competition clock are nothing compared to her desperate efforts to re-right history.  That fight becomes even more fraught with intrigue when both Alyse and Sgt. Roderick are drawn back into Hrogn and Ælfwyn's lives in 12th-century Ireland and Alyse must decide how much she's willing to tell Roderick in order to heal the divergence.

After enduring the totally unfathomable, body-swapping time-travel venture into Hrogn and Ælfwyn's world at the end of  Book One: Janus Paradox, Alyse is finally able to establish a point of connection with Sgt. Roderick, the man who was once her future husband. Except, now he's merely a stranger heading up her security detail at the Games and trying to prevent the on-going harassment Alyse has been subjected to since her arrival in Canada.  Together they seek out the help of  Dr. Connie Singh, a clinical psychiatrist working in a new field called, Quantum Psychology. Dr. Singh insists that their time-travel event was caused by something called, "Bridging" and their connection with Hrogn and Ælfwyn is directly through their soul-paths of reincarnation.

In the process of participating in Dr. Singh's Bridging-protocols to reconnect with Hrogn and Ælfwyn and determine how to heal the divergence, Alyse and Sgt. Roderick discover far more.  A riptide in Time has created an eddy between the 12th and 21st centuries, which may be the source of the Time-divergence in their own century. That eddy is swiftly becoming a vortex, continuing to bridge Roderick and Alyse with Hrogn and Ælfwyn, as well as with others of their soul-clan, shifting them into a mystifying array of "Otherworlds" along with other kindred souls.

- All these events taken together, convince Roderick & Alyse that the fates of Hrogn and Ælfwyn are forever entwined with their own. And yet, when Alyse is kidnapped again, so much havoc has been wrought upon their soul-kin; and their timelines are in such disarray, that unless they can bring together their soul-clan, it may never be possible to affect her release or to find a way back in Time...

"Alyse, they want to turn you into a History Mule. You've got to be ready!   You'll be entering the very Library of your Soul..."
